Why Accent Reduction?
Accent reduction training is for reaching your goal of speaking clearly, being understood, and eliminating the embarrassment when listeners look away or chuckle.
A yoga instructor would routinely say during yoga class “We need to fuckus”. He couldn’t figure out why this would cause people to giggle every time. The solution was in making making the o sound like ‘foe-cus’.
A banker realized there was something not quite right with her communication with condo developers when they averted eye contact when she would say “cundu” which sounded like, dare I say it, condom. When she was instructed on how to pronounce the word correctly, she felt more confident in her meetings.
Imagine doing public speaking and within the first two minutes people getting up and leaving the conference room. A friend of this public speaker was nice enough to tell him to stop all public speaking engagement until he contacted me for accent reduction training. After several weeks of training, he resumed public speaking and at his first engagement, no one got up and left. My client was able to continue public speaking to impart knowledge with confidence.

Hi, I’m Kathleen - Accent Reduction Coach, Linguist, ESL Instructor.
I’ve been instructing people and doing public speaking for 25 years.
I’ve worked in Speech Pathology as a Communicative Disorders Assistant helping people rebuild their communication skills. I’ve taught at George Brown for 10 years where I’ve receive an Award for Teaching Excellence. I’ve taught at Seneca, St Lawrence College, Queen’s University, as well as at Loyola School of English.
